August Art

Making art away from home and work responsibilities is a treasure. Most of my art in August were done in my sketchbook while traveling throughout Norway. I sketched on a 3 hour long ferry rides to Lofoten Islands, 7 hour train ride to Bergen, on flights, in cozy cafes on rainy Norwegian days, in my hotels, on piers in small fishing villages and restaurants while sipping wine.

A few of my pieces capture a moment in time. Like the view, a cup of hot chocolate, a glass of limoncello spritz with dinner, the glassware at my dinner table. These feel special because looking at them sends me back to the moment. I also made a series of gouache figures exploring the solitude that is solo traveling.

Takeaways from my art practice this month are: I am a fan of gouache. My preferred way to use watercolor is with ink pen. I really got into color pencils this month and it’s growing on me.
