I’ve been running everyday for 19 days

On November 14, 2022 (my Dad’s birthday) I kicked off my 1,000 day run streak. Today marks day 19. I’ve been able to be consistent because I am habit stacking. Stacking is a hack I got from James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits. It’s the art of combining a current habit with one you want to start. Essentially, take a habit you already do and pair it with a habit you want to do every day. I walk our dog, Milo every morning. Immediately after his walk, I bring him back to our home then turn on my heels and go for a run. Currently, I am running one mile each day. It takes me about 14 to 15 minutes to run a mile. I am a slow, steady runner.

During this time of year, mornings are crisp and cold; however, I’ve found that being active during the cold months isn’t really that hard with layers and a warm hat. I actually think it’s badass when I see other runners committed to the outdoors on cold days. Rocking in cold elements, leaving the excuses of comfort at home and getting on with it is next level. Nineteen days into daily runs, I am learning that the rewards are: getting clear on my needs for the day, settling into the flow of the day, noticing the beauty of the morning and things I see on my run and my favorite, the sweet few minutes of runner’s high that hits mid run or after the run.
